Panel Discussion

The day will begin with a 60-minute panel discussion featuring union leaders and activists from all areas of our community. The panel discussion, titled "Raise Your Voice" will focus on turning the volume up to be heard. We will discuss challenges our guests faced as they garnered the attention of not only their target audience, but the greater public as well. Confirmed guests of the panel include Scott Oake of The Bruce Oake Foundation, Angela Taylor from Inspire Community Outreach, Levi from Sunshine House Winnipeg, Darlene Jackson, President of MNU, and Linda Silas, President of CFNU. 

Keynote Speaker

Before becoming a specialist in organizational stress and trauma-exposed work, Françoise worked as a front-line mental health provider in a variety of complex settings including providing employee assistance to members of the Canadian Military. Over the last 25 years, she has worked with law enforcement, military personnel, health care, child welfare, social services, addiction support, education and other professionals in need of psychological support.

Francoise Mathieu, speaks on topics such as, mental health, burnout, empathic strain, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, high stress workplaces, self-care, and provider wellness. 

You Can Grieve That! (Can You?)

In this session, we will delineate between issues and grievances. Upon discovery of what is a breach of the Collective Agreement, we will discuss next steps. From filing a grievance to arbitration and resolve, after this session, attendees will have the knowledge to know when to grieve and process to follow through to arbitration.

Rock Your New Roll: A How-To Guide 

In this session, attendees will learn the basics of executive positions from President to Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Attendees will learn briefly how to work with LRO’s, how to hold a meeting, the importance of proper note taking, balancing a budget, submitting for expenses, and communication amongst an executive team. Attendees of this session will be provided with “How-To” Guides for each position to ensure success as a new executive.   

 

Workload Staffing Issue? Report It! 

In this session, attendees will learn the ins and outs of WSRs both online and in paper. We will discuss the importance of WSRs, when to fill one out and where they go once, they have been filled out. Attendees will learn firsthand how WSRs are handled at NAC and what happens if they end up in an IAC. Attendees of this session will receive a “How To” Guide for filling out an online WSR with step-by-step instructions to take away.
